2024 Event Info
100 Spooky Artists
Darksome is not an oddities market - the focus isn’t on taxidermy and specimens. Darksome is not a flea market. There are no resellers and no vintage items. Darksome is an art & craft market that celebrates and champions HANDMADE art and craft with a weird and/or spooky twist! Rather than accepting anyone who is interested and having a plethora of vendors, we limit is to 100 and finely curate our event to bring you high quality creations.
event held on the philadelphia side!
We hosted the event on the Philly side the first 2 years and the Yeadon side the next to years. This year we are moving the event BACK TO THE PHILLY SIDE!
Why? Among a few reasons, last year, even though we worked for months to get a permit to close a portion of Cobbs Creek Parkway, which was confirmed and paid for, the police never followed through.
Cemetery Address
Philly Side: 6201 Kingsessing Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19142 (Event held on the Philly side as well as limited free visitor parking)
Taking Rideshare/Lyft or Uber? It would be less of a walk to the event entrance to get dropped off at the Yeadon side - 1004 Cobbs Creek Parkway just use EXTREME CAUTION in crossing the parkway (unless you can get dropped off on the other side of the street)
parking
The Philadelphia side will host the market AND limited free visitor parking. Visitors should enter the cemetery at 6201 Kingsessing Ave to park. Please lock your car and leave your valuables at home.
We strongly encourage you to carpool, take an Uber/Lyft/Taxi to the event or public transportation. The #13 trolley will drop you off at the cemetery entrance (on Kingsessing). If you use ride share, uber, or lyft, you will be closer to the event entrance if you are dropped off on Cobbs Creek Parkway across from the Yeadon entrance which is 1004 Cobbs Creek Pkwy, Yeadon, PA 19050.
HANDICAP PARKING
This is an abandoned cemetery. There are no actual parking spaces. We have a small area of empty grass at the front of the event entrance reserved with handicap parking. We can fit 5-10 vehicles. When you enter, please tell the volunteers from the Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery that you would like handicap parking and if it is available, they will guide you.
‼️ Parking on the Yeadon side will not be monitored. There will be no crossing guards to assist those crossing Cobbs Creek Parkway. If you choose to park on the Yeadon side, it’s at your own risk. Crossing Cobbs Creek Parkway on foot is dangerous. Please use extreme caution if you choose to do so.
Visitors enter at their own risk
Mount Moriah Cemetery was abandoned in 2011 and was placed in a receivership in 2014. The grounds are cared for by the non-profit Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery, Inc., but…
There are many overgrown areas, uneven ground, rugged roads, and unsteady stones. Visitors enter at their own risk! Please do not climb on, lean on, or otherwise touch stones or mausoleums.
Sorry, there is no seating in the cemetery
volunteer run
Did you know that Mount Moriah technically has no owner? The Friends of the Mount Moriah Cemetery are all volunteers who are the stewards of the land doing their best to clear and maintain over 200 acres.
cemetery maps
Cobbs Creek divides the Cemetery into two areas, the Yeadon side and the Philadelphia side. The market will be taking place on the Philly side. This map is of the Philly side of the cemetery. Event path map coming soon!
admission
Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Cash only at the gate (no pre-purchase). Your donation supports the preservation and restoration efforts of the cemetery.
Weather
The event will take place rain or shine! If severe weather - thunderstorms for example - is called for 10/5, we will make the call Friday evening to move the event to our rain date on Sunday October 6th. We will post it right here if we are changing to Sunday, announce it on Instagram, Facebook and in the Facebook event.
Halloween costumes encouraged
No real OR fake weapons allowed
Vendor payment
Most vendors will accept card but it would be a good idea to bring some cash along as there is no ATM nearby, and in case any vendor is having issues with connectivity.
